Family photo project

In part, my family photo project is inspired by this blog post by Quinton Gordon, entitled “The Exotic is Right in Front of Us”.

There isn’t really anything closer to home than one’s family, so that’s where I’m starting. I still have technical questions - square format? 2:3? - but that’s fine. Those answers will present themselves in time. 

Ironically, in 2 weeks or so I’ll be leaving for Uganda until the end of June. It’s hard to get much more ‘exotic’ than that, but starting this family project makes me feel a little more grounded.

And how do you reconcile portraits of a middle class Canadian family with those of former child soldiers, or AIDS orphans? I think if my photos can answer that then I’ll have succeeded.
